Beyond a specific technique, I prioritize the human connection and the authentic experience of being together. I approach each therapy relationship with empathy, compassion, and authenticity. My goal is to develop an individual treatment based on unique goals, needs, and concerns. In developing an individualized plan for therapy, I incorporate a variety of treatment approaches that are evidenced-based.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a specialized treatment approach designed for processing trauma. EMDR is a powerful tool for processing disturbing memories and can be useful in relieving the impact of trauma. EMDR can also be helpful in addressing a variety of issues that feel "stuck" - like anxiety, depression, interpersonal dynamics, and beyond.
In creating an individualized and evidenced-based plan for each client, I integrate psychodynamic and third-wave cognitive behavioral therapies, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My approach is attentive to emotional experience, interpersonal understanding, reflecting on the past, being in the present, and moving toward a life worth living.
Culturally Responsive Therapy
As a therapist, and as a person, I strive to understand and address the many impacts that oppression has on human lives. I believe that our "problems" are always in context of our personhood.
I work to understand my own identities and the unique intersecting identities of each client I see. I hope to provide services that are racially responsive, queer affirming, and culturally attuned.
